Monikie Triathlon Festival

Published: Sat 27 Jul 2019

The weekend of 13th-14th July saw a number of club members travel down to Monikie Triathlon festival. Over the course of the weekend there were junior races, Scottish Relay & Sprint Championships

Junior Races

Ruairidh Stirling was was first off on the Saturday in the boys Tri Stars 2 event. With a determined and great performance in tricky greasy road conditions. Ruairidh finished 14th in his event racing further than the adults did in the later relay event. Well done Ruairidh.

In the relays Triathlon Inverness managed to gather 3 mixed teams together for the mixed relay event. It was a short, fast and furious event; with a 300m swim, 5km bike and 1km run.

The teams were drawn out of a hat which ended up giving each team a good mix of experienced and less experienced triathletes.

The short race makes for a fun, fast and furious event with the next athlete coming around rather quickly and the timing chip acting as a relay baton.

The teams were surprisingly well matched throughout and eventually all finishing within 3 minutes of each other in 24th, 25th and 28th place.

For some it was their first experience of an open water event. The short 300m swim lent itself well to an event that helps people build some open water confidence.

As a moderately sized club it was fantastic to have 3 teams. We'll definitely be aiming for more teams for next year's event to help encourage first time open water confidence!

Jennifer Lornie and Fiona Gordon were two of a few doing their first time open water event. If you fancy joining us to give this ago next year they both say "just do it, you'll never know if you can till you try"!

Thanks to all those who came down to make this a fun outing.

Sprint Championships

Locals Dave Reid and Graham Whyte were in action on the Sunday in the national sprint championships.

Dave Reid took 17th in the Super Veteran category and Graham Whyte took the Scottish Sprint title in the vintage category.

Well done both on excellent performances. For full race report and results check here.
