Ironman has made it to Scotland – I’m sure there are mixed views about this but for all the expense and big branding of Ironman, they do put on a great event. The race directors are well known in Scotland (Paul McGreal from Durty Events and Richard Pearson who organizes Aberfeldy).

The course was set in quite spectacular scenery with the backdrop of the run course and finish line being Arthur’s Seat. This is one hilly course and for its inaugural year the swim was no exception... there were reports of people being physically sea sick due to the extent of the waves!

The bike course was a bike of thirds with the first third being relatively straight forward, the 2nd third being quite hilly and the final 3rd being quite technical with a fair few twists and turns.

The run wasn’t quite cruel enough to make you go up to the top of Arthur’s Seat but it was certainly challenging and had a lot of climbing in. It also included an out and back through a tunnel which was certainly unique!

Kevin, Ewan S, Alan, Graham W and Sarah all headed down to take on the challenge and Sarah managed to hit the podium with 3rd in Age Group. This was Alan’s first open water swim in a race – he did well to survive it and can be secure in the knowledge that he is highly unlikely to ever experience anything as tough as that ever again!

Big thanks to Jill Kerr who came down to support with her ever enthusiastic cow bell ringing. I can quite confidently say she was the most enthusiastic supporter out there. The Colclough Clan were also out in force and it was great to have their support too.
